sun | never | sets | on | music​

As a kid, I fell in love with music through the radio - listening to broadcasts from far away, late at night. 
I was heavily influenced by an Australian broadcaster named Chris Winter, whose two hour programme "Room To Move", broadcast on ABC Radio on Monday nights at two minutes past eight (after the News) introduced me to musical genres far beyond the pop, country and classical I was otherwise exposed to.  This was in the early 1970's, still a few years before Winter founded Australia's "Youth Radio" station 2JJ ("The Jays"), the precursor to today's Triple J. 

But even in my small Australian country town, every visit to the record shop revealed a new release of what we now regard as a classic album. Even commercial radio was blessed with music of exceptional quality and diversity. So, a lifelong habit of crate digging, record-store hunting, mix-taping was formed.

In my professional life as an architect (I am now retired), I lived and worked for years at a time in many countries - in Asia, Middle East and North Africa and Australia - and developed an ear and appreciation for many different musical styles. As I travelled. (in the days before streaming services), I enjoyed being exposed to new music either through airline playlists, in taxis, in local record stores, street vendors and local festivals and performances.
 
As the internet developed, I began to discover artists from ever-widening sources and locations. After returning to Australia about a decade ago, and living remotely to begin with, I began to rely on streaming services and internet radio. With the diminishment of physical connection, and the almost infinite broadening of the music available, I found myself listening to music from global sources. 

SunNeverSetsOnMusic is my attempt to provide an archive for the music I listen to and admire. 

Each day I post a new review of a recent-release album that has attracted my attention and each month I compile tham in an archive for future reference. I compile and share end of year playlists of the highlights from the previous 12 months (by collating all my 5 star reviews into a single playlist).

I encourage visitors to the site to click away, as if you're browsing the bins of a record store, looking for that hidden gem of an album.
