An exquisitely luminous, spiritually resonant suite of harp improvisations bridging classical precision, jazz improvisation, and ambient post-minimalism.

Boston-based harpist and composer Charles Overton is a pioneering force bridging classical precision, jazz improvisation, and ambient post-minimalism. A Juilliard-trained virtuoso who has worked across orchestral, chamber, and contemporary creative music settings, Overton expands upon the groundbreaking lineages of Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane. Embracing the harp not merely as an instrument of traditional classical elegance but as a vehicle for profound emotional communion, his debut solo EP Reflections, recorded at Berlin’s famed Funkhaus studio alongside Grammy-winning producer Antonio Pulli, captures his remarkable expressive range and warm, meditative voice.

On Reflections, Overton turns moments of solitary introspection into a masterclass of long-form, atmospheric beauty. Born from unhurried studio sessions in Berlin, the five-track EP captures an artist communing intimately with his instrument. Opening piece "Tomorrow", an entirely spontaneous, single-take improvisation, sets a breathtaking tone of quiet wonder, allowing micro-tonal resonances and delicate harmonic overtones to float in suspended air. Key musical linkages bridge ambient minimalism, modal jazz, and post-classical textures, particularly on "Rumination" and the closing piece "Dawn," where Overton's shimmering arpeggios merge with Hiromu Seifert's subtle, brushed percussion to evoke the gradual warmth of first light. Without ever resorting to gratuitous technical display, Overton utilizes space, decay, and touch to craft soundscapes that feel both deeply vulnerable and structurally immortal. It is a sublime, shortlist-worthy quiet triumph.
