****-

Emotion-filled art-pop, driven by inventive use of deconstructed orchestration, and overlaid by a narrative that moves from insular longing to spiritual liberation.

Led by founder Ryan Lott alongside guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang, Son Lux operates at the forefront of post-rock, experimental electronic, and chamber pop. Having built a reputation around meticulous sound design, complex polyrhythms, and Lott’s fragile, expressive vocals, the trio continues to expand their sonic scope across numerous studio albums and soundtracks, most notably following their Oscar-nominated score for Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Often identified as aligned with other adventurous methodologies of other art-rock visionaries  - Radiohead, Bjork, Perfume Genius, Talk Talk, James Blake - Son Lux approaches composition through rigorous studio improvisation and sculptural editing, connecting raw human emotion with genre-bending artistic ambition.

For the most part, Out Into delivers an engaging lyrical narrative across its nine meticulously crafted tracks. Built from open-ended studio improvisations, the album arrives only days ahead of their experimental film soundscape, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)(reviewed separately). In fact, the songs flow together so well that they might easily have been culled from a motion picture soundtrack themselves.

Early on, the album's focus centres on the desire for personal connection through "Want You To Love", "Out Into Us", "Endlessly", and "You Could Be The One." By the middle of the set, we are presented with songs of self-sacrifice ("Even If It Hurts"), separation ("Summer's Gone"), and fond memory ("Apparition" – "...dance with me / Be more than a memory to me").

The album concludes with the striking, metronomic bombast of "No God Like A King", a song that appears to have no thematic connection to the ones that preceded it.

With its combination of intimate vocals and expressive, often explosive instrumentals, Out Into presents a moving emotional journey that is driven by an innovative and accessible musical intelligence.
